Compensation partners

3 parties are interlinked together in an incentive campaign where jaguars will be saved from being killed by jaguar-hunters, who are hired by cattle-farmers.

1. The Jaguar Conservation Fund – Brazil
South-America’s key jaguar research institute works in Brazil to promote the conservation of the jaguar. The JCF has been working closely with several large farmers in the Pantanal region in  Brazil.
It approaches the owners of the farms and get them involved in the Compensation Project. What may surprise you is that most of these owners have great respect for the jaguar. Cattle farmers have to show evidence that the cow or calf is killed by a jaguar. It takes a great deal of work and funds to manage this project as distances between farmers is great. Sometimes a jaguar attacks more than 1 calf per night which is a heavy burden on this compensation project.

2. Local cattle farmers - Central Brazil
Local cattle farmers in Brazil are mostly eager to commit to the Compensation Project. Most of them have great respect for the jaguar but choose for their own business and livelihood. Wildlife-tourism has not yet developed in a mature business in Central Brazil, where tourists bring in more money than cows. Therefore farmers tend to hire jaguar-hunters from their village and have the jaguar killed. The jaguar hunter uses his hounds to track the jaguar-trail close to the carcass and chases the jaguar in a tree and shoot the jaguar. Mostly all farmers are eager to join the JCF Compensation Program, but lack of funds is what prevents this project to spread to all farmers in Brazil. Therefore more funds are required.

3. Black Jaguar Foundation – The Netherlands
BJF is a group of professional volunteers, who share a major concern for and commitment to the world environment, with a special passion for the Black Jaguar in its natural habitat. BJF's role in the Compensation Program is pure and simple: Fundraising!  Funds are required for paying for preyed upon calves and cows. In addition it is vital to educate and commit farmers to the program.
